Trade Associations
When starting up your own travel agency it is crucial and extremely beneficial for you to join a trade association.
There are a few main ones that are detailed below:
Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA)
The ABTA was formed in 1950 with only a 100 members. It is now the most recognized trade association due to the fact that it represents over 7,000 travel agencies and 850 tour operations throughout the UK. The ABTA can be extremely influential to you and your company because they provide a wide range or services, however, this all comes at quite a large cost and can be very expensive. Travel Trust Association (TTA)
The TTA is more beneficial for start up travel agencies because they do not charge as much money as the ABTA and they will also provide most of the same services as the ABTA. For more information visit Travel Trust Association
Global Travel Group
The Global Travel Group targets start up companies. They run as a franchise and provide bonding and licensing to travel agencies. They are also a well recognized association that you will be able to join at a much lower rate than the ABTA. To find out more visit Global Travel Group
