Rules and Regulations
There are a few essential things that you must do when starting up your travel agency:
- You must have Air Travel Organizers Licensing (ATOL) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) or another option is joining the ABTA or TTA, this will enable you to sell airline tickets. It is important to remember if you intend to sell more than 500 tickets per year you will need either a standard or third party ATOL but if you plan to sell less then you can just have a Small Business ATOL.
If you are applying for a Small Business ATOL you will need to provide Cvs , company details, a business plan for the next two years, complete and application form and pay a fee. If you are already trading then you must provide the CAA with all your brochures etc.
After this you will need to pay an annual renewal fee and you must include the ATOL symbol and license number on all promotional material.
- You must also by law, provide a bond that ensures that clients will be reimbursed if the company was to fail financially. You can attain this from your bank or your insurance company.
There are many other rules and regulations that you must adhere to.
These are all identified and described on the following websites:
Office of Public Sector Information
